January 24th is National Compliment Day, a day where people are encouraged to pay a compliment to someone else. By being thankful, appreciative, kind, and caring, the world around us can be a better place for everyone.
I am very much mindful of the benefit that a kind word here or there does in others. I see shoulders lifted. I see smiles appear. I see tears dry up. I see people boosted and uplifted. Kindness really is a powerful thing.
It also is a very healthy thing to do as part of our daily lives, to show our gratitude, to speak our positive feelings out loud, and to appreciate those around us and the things that we enjoy having in our lives.
In Britain, we aren’t very good at accepting compliments or words of praise, but part of that is because it is more common for people to moan than to praise. By ensuring compliments and gestures of appreciation are more prevalent than we are more likely to develop habits of positivity and gratefulness.
If you get the opportunity today, why not pass on a compliment to someone out of the blue. You never know it could be just the lift they need today.
