The Seagull by Chekhov

Some stories stay with you long after the curtain falls. A few years back, I had the opportunity to go to the Harold Pinter Theatre in London to see Emilia Clarke perform in The Seagull. It was a powerful experience that has sat with me for some time now.

Plays like Chekhov’s The Seagull are a brutal reminder that we often beat our wings against the cages of modern life. We allow ourselves to be a smaller, caged-up version of who we are, who we could be, and who we should be.

The tragedy is that we accept it. We don’t fight it, we get held back by it.

Recently, I’ve been thinking about how much we owe it to ourselves to change that narrative. We owe it to ourselves, and to those around us, to stop settling. It’s time to stop being the “caged” version and finally let ourselves become who we are meant to be. Being true to yourself brings out the best in you.
